Our Story
I'm Adarsh Mavathaveedu, a recent graduate of the University of Rochester. As the oldest child in an immigrant family, I found myself navigating the complex college application process with virtually no guidance. Similarly, the high price of academic counseling services discouraged me from seeking outside help. It was not until after my application cycle that I realized that not only is an applicant's profile important, but the way an application is constructed and presented carries immense weight. This realization inspired me to assemble a team of accomplished students from my university, and thus Project LTF was born - an initiative dedicated to helping students of all financial backgrounds craft outstanding applications.
""Applications should be judged on the candidacy of the applicant and not the amount of money they poured into it."'

UR: Executive Advisor
My name is Hana Zhang and I’m a sophomore at the University of Rochester. As someone freshly out of the college admissions process, I know that it can be crazy and stressful, so I know that Project LTF can serve as a supportive group of people that are here to help guide you. As the oldest daughter in an immigrant family, my parents tried their best to help me, but I was mostly on my own. Without wanting to turn to very expensive services, I navigated the whole process and am ready to help you all do the same!

UR: Director of Mentorship
My name is Keira Donnelly and I am a junior at the University of Rochester. Project LTF would provide a service to me that I wish I had when applying to college: someone closer in age to guide me. Writing served as a positive creative outlet for me throughout high school and I channeled this energy into writing my college supplements; however, I felt as though I needed more direction and guidance. I am eager to use my experience to help others navigate the application process in a more constructive way!

University of Rochester Chapter
The University of Rochester chapter was founded in 2022 by Adarsh Mavathaveedu, Hana Zhang, and Keira Donnelly. These three visionary students understood the challenges and struggles associated with applying to college, whether it be the financial aspect, or the lack of guidance some students may experience. Recognizing the need for better support and guidance, these students established the chapter to provide assistance to prospective college applicants. Our mission is to ease the application process by offering personalized advice, resources, and mentorship, ensuring that every student has access to the help they need to achieve their higher education goals.
Cornell University Chapter
Inspired by the success and impact of the University of Rochester chapter, the Cornell University chapter was established in 2024 by President Weiyi Huang, and Vice President Simeon Turner. Witnessing the profound difference that personalized guidance and support made in the college application journey, these students sought to bring the same level of assistance to their peers at Cornell, and beyond. The Cornell chapter builds on the foundation laid by the Rochester chapter, offering a wide range of resources, workshops, and one-on-one mentoring sessions to help students navigate the complexities of the college application process. Their goal is to ensure that every student, regardless of their background or circumstances, has the opportunity to pursue higher education with confidence and clarity.

Michael Christof
My name is Michael Christof and I’m a junior at the University of Rochester. Having been on the receiving end of the admissions prep companies and tutoring services, I know what to look for insuccessful applicants and what makes them stand out. Project LTF bridges the gap between students looking for help, but without the financial burden and with insight from college students who have already gone through the process. With any higher-education process, crafting your story is key and I want to be the force that helps young adults find out who they really are and what college can provide for them.

Smit Kothari
I’m Smit Kothari, a junior at the University of Rochester. Reflecting on my college application journey, I always relied on my older sister for support, as she successfully navigated the process a year prior. Oftentimes, I sought guidance from writing tutors and college advisors when faced with challenges along the way. Recognizing the privilege of this support, I understand that not everyone has access to such resources, despite their unwavering ambition. Thus, in efforts to pay it forward, I joined Project LTF with the commitment of assisting students in crafting their narratives, be it applications, writing, or fostering a positive mindset for future planning.
Director of Outreach of the Rochester Chapter
Nancy Fan
My name is Nancy Fan, and I'm a sophomore at the University of Rochester. Looking back at the time when I was applying to college, I remember it being a nerve-wracking experience but was fortunate enough to have navigated it with help. Unfortunately, many people around me didn't have access to affordable tutoring, career counseling, or financial literacy resources. As a Youth Leader during my senior year of high school, I underwent training with counselors and academic advisors to help my peers with their college applications and planning. I also provided extra support for writing supplements outside of school. I wish I had access to resources like Project LTF, which provides affordable and helpful services. I'm excited to use my experiences to continue assisting you through this process!
Director of Operations of the Rochester Chapter
Mihika Biswas
My name is Mihika Biswas and I'm a sophomore at the University of Pennsylvania. Back when I was first applying to college, I often struggled with conflicting advice as my parents who weren’t familiar with the college system in the US tried their best to help me. While their intentions were completely pure, I was left very confused for most of the process, but luckily I had amazing teachers and college advisors that helped me through the process. Once I had gotten the hang of the system, I spent a lot of time helping my friends and classmates with the same system and found myself rejoicing all the same when they had accomplished getting into their dream schools or earning scholarships. In the end, I found myself having to apply to colleges all again after my freshman year due to health and academic reasons. Once again, I was lost as transfer applications differ from first-year applications. Nonetheless, I managed to master the college admission system and realized that I wanted to continue helping others crack the code either with first-year admissions or transfer admissions. Thus, I joined Project LTF to reach out to more students and help them in their college journey whether it’s straightforward like regular decisions or a bit horizontal like transfer decisions.

Valerie Voytsekhovskaya
I'm Valerie Voytsekhovskaya, a sophomore at the University of Rochester. Having recently undergone the college application process myself as a first gen kid, I recall how daunting it may be. Since graduating high school I've freelanced in editing college essays, creating college lists, providing resources, and sometimes just emotional support to prospective students. During my own application cycle, I was lucky to have found super helpful mentors that were willing to answer my questions and guide me (for free)- I'm excited to pay that forward with Project LTF.

Looking forward, I am excited to share my knowledge through Project LTF and guide others to explore the various possibilities they have for the process before providing all the information necessary to execute their path successfully.

Director of Outreach of the Cornell Chapter
Alex Weng
My name is Alex Weng and I'm a sophomore at Cornell University. I consider myself to be lucky with how smoothly my college application process went. I received a lot of vital help from my high school guidance counselor when it came to creating a school list, editing essays, and staying organized. Furthermore, I saw what happened to some of my peers who didn't receive as much help as me, navigated the process in a confused and disorganized manner, and didn't get the results that they wanted from their applications. Recognizing what worked for me and what didn't work for others, I felt prepared to give application advice to others, including some of my friends in the class below me. I decided to join Project LTF so I could continue to help struggling applicants, and I believe students from all backgrounds should have equal guidance and opportunity to succeed in the college application process.
Director of Operations of the Cornell Chapter
Brianna mendez
Hi! My name is Brianna Mendez and I’m a sophomore at Cornell University. Coming from a high school that wasn’t very involved in the college application process, I relied heavily on my parents and older sister to help me strengthen my application. This experience made me appreciate the value of having resources and people to help build a strong application. That’s what excites me about Project LTF — it gives students, who are in the same position I was in two years ago, access to free information and support to help them get into their dream schools!
Vice President of the Cornell Chapter
Simeon Turner
I’m Simeon Turner, and I’m a Sophomore at Cornell University studying Electrical and Computer Engineering. During high school, I didn’t want to think about college until the summer before my senior year. When I started, I had no idea what I was doing. With my main source of information being the internet and my research partner being my dad, we navigated the college application process on our own. Reflecting on this experience, I wish I had more guidance and direction. As a part of LTF, I am excited to provide resources, guidance, and mentorship to those going through the college admissions process!
Director of Marketing of the Cornell Chapter

Whether through producing videos that tell compelling stories or leveraging media platforms to amplify important messages, I am dedicated to making a positive impact. The college application process was a significant milestone in my life, but it was also a time of great stress and uncertainty. I couldn't imagine navigating it all alone. That's why I joined Project LTF, through my involvement I aim to support an organization that seeks the betterment of other's lives through media platforms.
Director of Mentorship
Sofia Spillane
I’m Sofia Spillane, and I am a sophomore at Cornell University. As the eldest child and with useful but limited guidance from my high school, I found the college application process terrifying and hard to navigate. However, with assistance from mentors in my high school’s Speech and Debate program, as well as support from my family and peers, I was able to successfully apply and gain admission to my top-choice university. Through Project LTF, I am committed to ensuring that every student has access to similarly invaluable aid with their college applications. University should always be an option, regardless of income, background, or level of pre-existing knowledge about the process. I, and the rest of Project LTF, am excited to guarantee this option, and to make sure that students’ applications reflect their most authentic selves.
